Does anyone have any experience with synthetic deck products other than Trex? I am doing a 600 sf deck – removing the pressure treated wood and replacing with a synthetic material, but am a little unsure of which product to really use. It would be nice to be able to use existing joists. I also want to go the hidden fastener route, rather than face screws.
Thanks! Jim

Im working on my first composite deck progect(800 sq ft 5 curves)
Ive posted a few questions here on the subject and found out:
framing should be 12" oc especially if decking is diaganal
if you have a butt joint ,square butt it with 1/8 space for expantion
look up timbertech for more info all in all not much different than p/t decking
as far as installation
I've been using "Cross Timbers" decking.
Has a groove for hidden fasteners
Not too hard to put down
Joists can be 16" O/C if decking runs 90 degrees to joists
go to http://composites.elkcorp.com/fasteners.cfm to get info

I am building a deck using Correct deck for a client. I like the material and one of their lines the has the groove for the hidden fasteners. They have a web site that explains it all correctdeck.com
Two past issues by Taunton Press have addressed synthetic decking choices, prices, and made comparisons. Search the home page of "Fine Homebuilding" and "Inspired House" for details and issue numbers.
