Asking people from acros the country (and around the world) what's available in your area probably won't get you a lot of helpful responses.
Instead, why not ask around locally ? Find a lumberyard that's been around a while, and ask them what they recommend. If they've had trouble with a brand of shingle, they won't want to sell it, and generate a bunch of headaches for themselves. They'll know what's available, and will have info about warranties.
*There are lots of 'good' quality strip shingles on the market and lots of warrantees to go along with them. The fine print on the warrantees leaves you holding the bag; though there are a few that actually give you something to bank on.There are lots of interesting effects that manufacturers have developed for 3 tabs. Curved edges, 4" rather than 6" slots, shadow lines. They may suite your taste rather than standard cut. Look for heavier weight shingles. Heavier is usually better. Some reasearch has shown that felt based shingles preform slightly longer than fiberglassed mat shingles. But of course they cost more and are harder to find.I agree w/ Ron that you should find locally available shingles. As soon as you have to special order shingles, you've spent more than you'll benefit from the better choice.
