taking the leap/going out on my own

If you have the work to do, it will be the best choice you ever made. I did it 1 1/2 years ago, even through the rough times I have not regretted my decision.

I have been on my own for 14 years. Every one was
rewarding and yet full of days asking myself "Why"
Yes you will work while everyone is goofing off,
you'll feel crunched by paperwork and sometimes
babysit your work force. But it's still worth not
answering to a "boss" and setting (sometimes) your
    own schedule.

    'best of luck to you,
    M

*better be prepared to get off work at 4 pm and shower....then go to your desk and work until 10 pm every nite estimating, paying bills, returning calls, etc. Plan on getting a paycheck about every 4 mos. while your men get one weekly. Also plan on not working when you dont want to (if you can) and going fishing during the week (on occasion)......PS I worked 10 hrs today(sat) while my men were fishing

*atta way. Give it your best shot! (and don't hold yourself to standards any different than you would hold someone else to) Good luck. - jb

*zone- I just got dumped from being lead carpenter and sort of all around guy to being head of the company about two months ago. The learning curve is very steep. Be prepared for mood swings from minute to minute. Some days I just want to say "F**K IT!" and go sub myself out to somebody else. Other days (or hours) i feel like everythings going to be ok, especially the days I actually get to sit down at the office (a.k.a. my dining room) and eat lunch with my better half. Good luck and may your profits be large and your overhead be small. Oh, and I may or may not be in the position to give advice, but i will anyway. Two words: CASH FLOW. Better to construct your jobs with lots of small draws frequently than large deposits and big percentage draws. To much money is not necessarily a good thing.
