I have a client that wants to re-grind their terazzo floor. The are old, cracked in spots, have a number of layers of wax on them.
My concern is what about the brass dividers. Do they come out or can they be ground down some too? Also, how much could grinding take off? DanT

the brass is the softest thing in that floor. it will just get ground and polished like the cement and stones.
a fresh grind will only take off a 1/16" to an 1/8". the cracks are there to stay.
who is going to grind it ?

"who is going to grind it?"
Well, that is a to be determined later deal. We had the walk through meeting yesterday. Really a small room and they want to tile the other bath and common area. I think tile it all but.......I am not calling the shots lol. So the regrind is a common thing huh? Do they seal it afterwards? DanT
common ?
i don't know about that. wax stripping is very common.
trying to find someone to grind a small residential terazzo floor could be a headache.
it takes expensive grinding equipment and makes one heckuva mess with all of the water used during grinding.
yes the floor will get sealed when it's done.
you should make some calls to see if you can get a terazzo company to even look at it for you. it's been about 5 years since i had a small repair done and i had to beg the guys to come out.
and pricey too.

35 years ago I was able to rent a dual counter-rotating disk terrazo grinder, was charged by the amount of the SiC blocks worn down. Very easy to use and got a good flat finish the first time. Thing weighed about 250#, luckily was young then and could get it in and out of the truck by myself, a 2 man job now?
25 years ago was going to do terrazo again, could not find a place to rent one (after the pour)!, had to use a floor polisher with carbide blocks, uneven grind, not happy.
It is a pretty easy DIY project IF you can find a dual disk grinder to rent, I would not even try using the floor polisher attachment.
