On the way to this board I pass the Fine Homebuilding home page. This month there is an article that instructs one to run wiring in the space between the door jam and the wall (behind the trim).
Most door jams are 3/4″ thick. It is impossible to keep the wire 1-1/4″ away from the wall surface (i.e. the jam surface. It is close to impossible to protect the wire with a steel plate. Makes it a code violation and a dangerous one at that for any one who resets a door.

George,
I didn't look for the item you mentioned but once in a while I disagree with a FHB writer too. Like when Ms.Susanka said that electricians place smoke detectors on ceilings with no respect for symmetry, just cluttering everything up,so, she specs putting them over the door. Not recommended by the NFPA.Air circulation around and through doors keeps smoke from entering the detector.Ceiling mounted detectors also can alarm where smoke accumulates first. Not to be a whiny second guesser, but who wants to be a corpse with a great looking ceiling?
*"but who wants to be a corpse with a great looking ceiling? "Depends on whether I land face down or face up
