Thin/Hidden Insulated Curtain (alter.)
I have room with plenty of glass and nice views. The woodwork (trim work) shows so well that I have opted until now for using no window dressing. I have a large picture window on one side of the living room, a French door with venting side-lights on the other side. Next to it is a bump out with 2 windows and a fix window in the middle.
Privacy-wise I am ok. But I would like to once in a while (like in the winter, when I am out on vacation or on a very hot summer day) be able to use some type of insulated drapes, shades or something. I just down what is to be bulky or take away from the look of the existing trim work.
I thought about adding a matching wood-trim balance that would hide a shade and when needed pull it down to cover the French door and sidelights.
Is there a special super thin drape material that collects nicely small at the sides of a large patio door and is still a good insulator?
Thanks for you help!!!

I'm by no means an interior decorator, but since no one else has answered this, I'll give you my ideas: the valance idea sounds good--maybe put Roman shades up behind the valance. You could get some insulation--fiberglass or even polyester fill between the layers of material. They wouldn't seal real tightly at the edges, but it doesn't sound like that would be a big problem. (I think I have the right term "Roman shades" for the cloth shades that have a hem at the top, middle and bottom that a rod or dowel goes through and they can be all the way up, half down, or all the way down.)
