I’m installing ceramic tile in a large rectangular dining room. I want to start with a 2 or 3 tile border and lay the center on a diagonal. My question is, what can I do to get rid of the sharp edge on the diagonal tiles (cut) where they meet the border tile? I’m using a ceramic floor tile that resembles slate with a mild “slate like” texture on the face.
Thanks in advance,
Doc

Not a whole hell of a lot.
You could grind down the sharp edge but you will expose the raw material under the glazed coating.
This type of pattern is better with the real thing. You can remove the edge from most natural products.
We're in the process of doing this with slate in a dozen lobbies.

*Doc BThe only thing I can suggest is to make your border two and a half tiles wide, with the half tile on the inside, cut edge nearest the field. That way you'll have two cut edges against one another so they'll be the same height.
*You can ease the edge with a carborundum stone, but it's really not going to give you what you want.Gabe said it all on this one...go au natural.
*Hey Mongo, I thought you were dead.If you get the opportunity, check out page 122 of the June issue of the Architectural Digest and look at the wood floor layout.Absolutely spectacular!!!!!!!Makes a terrific case for Au Naturel.Gabe
*Ha ha! You're not the only one that thought that, Gabe. I'm sure a few others have even wished it.I should be dead...this is the killer time of year for me...been a bit busy with work, then home life is a little hectic with all the rugrat activities that pop up this time of year. That said...I wouldn't have it any other way!Workin' hard, and waiting for recess so I can play hard...I'll check out the issue tomorrow.Mongo
*Start with a border?? I hope that was just a word thing. You should start in the middle.
