I’ve laid a bit of tile in my time, and usually rented a 10″ wet saw from the rental shop to cut the darn things. I see that my purveyer of tools has a nifty little 7″ tile saw with the blade mounted under a tilting table. It makes sense to me, and the price is right, (about $150.00 CDN. ) Anybody have any comments on these things? I notice that the table is kinda small, wich would make cutting 12″ tile on the diagonal awkward. I like the fact that this saw undercuts the tile.

I own one of those saws. It has it's limits. It's great for small jobs, especially showers. I can set the saw up in a small bath(you have to protect your surroundings from water spray), and save a ton of steps compared to having the big saw set up on the front walk, or the basement.
Just remember-it doesn't have the power of the big saws, and the larger tiles are a little more problematic. I still have to occasionally rent the big saw.
It's tricky cutting triangular pieces without the tip of the exiting point breaking off-that can get annoying.
It's good for a guy like me who does maybe 6 tile jobs a year.
A full time tile installer would just laugh at it.

I only do about a dozen tile jobs a years. I bought a real tile saw about six years ago to "cope" some tile trim in the corners. After buying the thing (Around$750-$800) I saw a one armed tile setter who only used a 4 1/2" dealt grinder with a smooth rim blade for all his tile jobs. Ok he had two of them. One had all guards removed and the other hand a metal cutting guard and foot from dewalt. After that I've mostly just used the side grinder for tile jobs. Ok a side grinder and a fine point sharpie.....lmao
i had to laugh at your post, first off the guy only had 1 arm, then he had 2!and 1 hand had a metal guard with a foot attached from dewalt, i didn't know dewalt made replacement foots! this guy must of been pretty funny looking!!!!! sorry just had to take a shot, and i'm the guy in typewriting class who would take the typewriter apart to see what made the little wheel spin around. still don't know larry
there have been a couple posts in the last year about a full sized tile saw from harbor freight for 200 bucks.
obviously with the harbor frieght stuff, you aren't getting the highest quality, but i guess it all boils down to how much tile cutting you are going to do, and how often you rent a full size saw.
the link for the saw is here

but you can search the archives for a couple threads about this saw... a couple folks have had good luck with it (but they aren't setting tile for a living either)
here is a link to one thread that i started... look for the replies from workshopjon

Thanks Oak, et al,
I got hold of one of those 10" "off shore" wet saws, for $186.00 CDN, with a blade. Other peoples' experiences with tile saws was helpful.
