Hey folks…
On a job I working on I’m confronted with two tile issues I have no experience with. The first is… these are unglazed tiles. Do I recall correctly that these need to be sealed in some way before grouting? Also, I need to color the grout. I used to see powdered colorants for sale, but no place I’ve checked with has them anymore. I did buy some concentrated acrylic pigment at an art supply store, any ideas whether this is suitable or alternative ideas?
As always… thanks for any help!

Yes Paul, seal them first with whatever the manufacturer or the supplier recommends. Before and then several weeks after grouting.
Why do you need to color the grout?? If you cannot provide your client with a color they like, I'd be REAL careful. My experience is that mason supply yards will carry the powdered colorants. No clue how the art stuff will work.
And of course you know about John Bridges site.
I thought you were gonna call me back last sat. What happened??
Call me if you need some good words.

Thanks about the sealant Eric. I need to color the grout because I opened my big yap and suggested to the client we oughta try to match the grout in the accent areas to the tile... arghhhhh
I'll give ya a ring.

Custom Mfgring has a very large selection of colored grouts. I would pick one of them.Be advised that an exact match will be impossible. The best hope I can offer you is to do a mock up of the tile on a scrap of CBU and try some different colors on the tile. You could do several combinations, and even combine two colors to make a third. No matter how close you get it, it will be a tad darker or lighter than whatever you have.Good Luck.Regards,
