Ok, a first. I’ve never posted pics. This is coming along well thus far. Still in progress.

Nice work RW... once you get above the piers...

Don't sweat it. That will all get skirted eventually. And landscaped. I'm getting nervous though. The little one is basically done. The medium sized one isn't framed yet, the big one is framed and about half topped. I've got a week before I go in and get my own main panel worked on, then I'm out of commission. I just want to get it all wrapped up."The child is grown / The dream is gone / And I have become / Comfortably numb "      lyrics by Roger Waters

        The deck does look good...

Just don't push so hard that you have to go and get the panel work done early.. Be well and take care..

Looks great RW! I like the way you ran the decking in different directions.

I also like the substantial footings........

Those substantial footings were just amazing to me. Our local code requires a depth of 36" for frost. Typcial deck footings are just that. Sonotube a couple of inches up and pour. These are almost 60" deep, and have 3 strands of #5 wired together. The place that did the excavation and poured them "we're used to being within an eighth of an inch" was off so much the whole octagonal bump out just plain moved about 7 inches from the plan. On the bigger lower deck, spacings adjusted a little (you can see one that's sitting on the side) and others they came back and capped. Groan.

But thanks for the compliment Bob. You're kind of the deck king around here. I thought using the 2x6 stock for the edge and the split in the herringbone was a good way to avoid random splicing of the tongue and groove that makes up the field."The child is grown / The dream is gone / And I have become / Comfortably numb "      lyrics by Roger Waters

Looks great! How do you like the timber tech?

I don't understand! I cut it twice and it's still too short!

I like it well. I expanded some on my thoughts in the deck thread circulating at the moment."The child is grown / The dream is gone / And I have become / Comfortably numb "      lyrics by Roger Waters

The piers and deck looks built well .... but whats with the stairs? haha I ask since they look very unorthodox, to the point that they look as if salvaged from another job.im sure they will be very uncomfortable to ascend, causing the climber to watch every step.

        1. RW | Nov 14, 2003 12:18am | #9

Hmm, wander about and generate little provoking slaps to see what turns up, eh? You got me. I salvaged stairs off another job. I don't know how to cut stringers. Good thing they fit so well though. Just dumb luck, huh? Gee when I salvaged a whole roof off another job, that didn't line up so well.

Take a bit and wait until you're 70 and using a chair lift. Those four inch risers might seem a little more friendly then."The child is grown / The dream is gone / And I have become / Comfortably numb "      lyrics by Roger Waters
