For years we have had a simple mercury thermometer mounted outside a window of our house. After renovating, we put it outside our new bathroom window so we could check it in the morning.
Now, when it is 70 degrees out, the thermometer reads 95 degrees.
Can you figure out why?

The glass tube containing the Hg moved within it's housing.
