Just got done doing my taxes. Took 6 plus hours. I’m not going to say which program I used just yet. Just wanted to hear feedback from people who have used either, and especially from those that have used both.

I usually allow a full day (and then some) to do taxes. I've used Turbo Tax since the days of DOS. But I have to confess, I'm becoming disenchanted. There isn't a lot of realistic planning for the next year. Even after muddling through the 'interview' I still end up viewing the forms to correct most of the errors.
I can't complain too much, though, it's a lot better than when I used to do them with just a calculator. Then I allowed two days plus.
Hope this helped.
I never met a tool I didn't like!
TurboTax, but I hate the interview mode, and it's geting more obnoxious.
Do it right, or do it twice.
I used TurboTax. My personal taxes took me about 3 hours, but this was an easy year. I especially like the feature where it shows you last year's data next to where you type in this years. Why it lets you edit the last year data, I don't know (annoying).
The state tax add-on still required going to the forms for tweaking.
This year was the first time I tried the electronic filing, since they offered a rebate to make it free. It was nice not having to mail anything, and getting a next day confirmation that they were accepted. I might even pay next year.
Not sure if I will stay with Turbo, or try TaxCut next year, after all the complaints about "spy ware" and installation problems found by others on this board. Maybe Intuit will learn from this year and remove their attempt at copy protection, and just make a product that will be so good people will not mind paying for it.
Please keep the responses coming.
Jon,
I had used turbotax for years until there state program crashed my computer one year. I have used tax cut since and have been pleased with the results. This year the wife bought turbo tax so by default we are giving them a second chance. have not finished the taxes yet so the jury is still out.
Tax program? I don't need no stinkin' tax program?
That's what Mother-in-law's are for.

You trust your Mother-in-Law to do your taxes?

That's what she does for a living. Tax returns. It usually takes me about 5 minutes to drive them over and sign the forms after. If at first you don't succeed...try again! After that quit! No sense being a dam fool about it! W.C.Fields
Taxcut this year. Have used Turbotax in years past, but the obnoxious turbotax validation/registration/activation scheme this year which included invisible writes to a protected sector of your hard disk which you cannot get rid of even with a reformat of the hard drive was enough to make me change. I found taxcut to be just as good in results, a little less polished in the interview. I won't be buying any more intuit products.
Go with a good CPA/Tax preparer. A reputable one will have it done in a day or so and shouldn't charge a whole lot. Might be too late at this time of the year to find a good CPA that is not booked up.
