I am currentlyrenovating a barn where the novelty siding is nailed directly to the studs. There is no sheathing. I am
insulating with a spray polyurethane. I will tyvek the interior of the siding so that, if needed, I can replace any siding
without ripping out the insulation. My question is… should I wrap the studs as well or only the cavity between the stud

What is "novelty siding"?
JonC
*I don't see where wrapping the studs gains you anything.I wouldn't bother with tyvek there either. It will be doing nothing for you and it costs 4 times more than 15# felt.-Rob
*Re you talking about panelized siding, like T-111? If so, I would think the cost(time, and materials) to use wrap, or felt, would be more than the cost of re-insulating a section, should you have to remove one section of siding, assuming you are talking about removal for repair. If you are talking about removal for replacement, why not side right over what you had put up. This is often done w/ t-111
*Marc - I don't think you presented your problem clearly. It would seem to me that the housewrap is a good if somewhat costly step and it would seem a lot easier with no downside to wrap studs and all.
*Where are all your estimating calcs. guys.... The tyvek is a tiny cost compared to the spray in insulation...Marc.. I would do whatever is fastest and I would probably wrap over the studs...near the spray from da stream,aj

Bill,
The down side according to one insulating contractor is that wrapping the studs will create warm air pockets that
can trap moisture. I don't neccessarily follow this line of thinking
*
Well - I do think you have to install it neatly so teh foam will essentially compress it against the studs. It shouldn't be any larger pocket than without the tyvek - and the tyvek isn't a moisture barrier compared to the foam - is it?
*Try TuTuf instead of Tyvek
