Hey all, I am trying to research unique patterns or ways of installing HW floors for our entryway and am coming up really short. There was one post a few years back but the image is not valid and the dude’s site is down now. 🙁
I had a physics prof. in college who designed and installed his flooring after a Buckminster Fuller design. Super cool, but of course I cannot remember the details.
I am looking at around 100sf. so not to huge of a project and now that I have our new front stairs I am really looking for the wow factor on entering the house.
Any books or websites or pictures of projects would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I've a few different designs on my site -- mainly parquet but a few strip floors as well.

You sure did. If we don't know the answer, we'll make one up for you!
Very nice. I didn't have time to browse extensively, but I liked what I did see. I'd like to know more about such work. Maybe later.
IanDG,
Love the floors. Can I ask... what is red gum and blue gum?
Rob Kress
Red Gum is red and Blue Gum is, er, red.Blue Gum -- there are two with that name, is either Eucalyptus Saligna, a pretty claret red and Eucalyptus Globula, sometimes called Southern Blue Gum, which is a straw color. There are lots of Red Gums, most common is River Red Gum which is a pinky-red and hard as nails!

Try looking as some books on ceramic tile.

A medallion might fit the bill.

Ditch,
Those medallions are absolutely stunning. Wow. I drive by Oshkosh occasionally and think I will try and stop in next time.
Or if you want something really intricate, you could scale up a pattern from a lute rose, the fretwork sound hole on a lute. Here's a Google image search.
