We are adding a shed roofed porch to a smal cabin sided with 1/4 log siding. The log siding butts up against the corner post. We know to put flashing up under the next row of siding and extend it out over the metal roofing material. The the problem is the corner created because the outside corner post on the house is NOT flush with the log siding but about 1″ thicker…see picture below.
This arrangement creates a quirky corner to deal with to keep water from going under the metal roofing and getting to the ledger board, end rafter, and 1x6s that will be under the metal roofing. (we are using 1x6s to create the “ceiling” for the porch below with exposed rafters)
We intend to enclose the ends of the shed roof because we wil eventually screen the porch below,
Please feel free to call Bob at 785-363-2669 if you have any suggestions or need more information.
first picture shows ledger board with the rafter where they intersect the corner post, second picture shows the metal roofing we are are using. The thid picture (attempts to show) the flat flashing that will go under siding and on top of roofing, and the rack flashing we’ll use to wrap the ends of the metal roofing to the siding we’ll use to enclose the shed roof. The unpainted board is used in place of the red corner post shown in picture 1…
The problem is that corner…how and where do we install flashing between the flat “roof to side wall” flashing and the rack flashing up in that corner next to the corner post?

Your best bet is to frame that end of the roof so you have a quarter inch of clearane to slide the rach eave flashing cover up to the seathing behnd the corner. If this is allready all nailed up, then ease some off the corner bd with a sawsall.
You can also slide the upper leg of the endwall flashing behind the cornerbd with the lower leg folded down over the eave rack flashing.
