Anybody know of a great UV protection product for an exterior wood doors? My from door gets hit with afternoon sun all year long.Short of covering it up with a storm door I’m not sure what to do. After a year mine needs to be re-stained already. My builder warned me that no matter what I use, it’s always going to fade. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks.

There are paints with UV blocker in them. I'm not sure which ones are the best. maybe someone here will chime in with a brand recommendation.
Some of the marine finishes are quite a bit more durable than ordinary finishes. Minwax makes one called Helmsman that I like. Never used it in conditions as severe as yours, though.
There are finishes with UV blockers, but the blockers are consumeables.....they block light, but get used up in the process. After they're all gone, the normal fading process proceeds. So you have to keep renewing the finish. Agree that some of the marine finishes are better...I'd look for a two-part varnish, but they are expensive.
Even the helmsman spar varnish will get eaten up by the sun. We've gone to using porches over natural wood finish doors with spar varnish or solid color paint if I can't work in a porch roof to provide shade.
The storm door will probaly work more like a magnifying glass than a shield by the way.

Paint.
Hueglin.
I have black walnut timbers on the exterior of my home. (go to 94941.1 and 85891.1 in advanced search to see them) So I researched the heck out of this because I wanted to show them off.
Bottom line nothing works for long.. the best is a coat of shellac followed with 6 coats of epiphanes marine spar varnish.
I also used Helmsmen and it's about 60% as effective or durable as Epiphanes.. Interlux is better than Helmsmen but not as good as Epiphanes
Now when you find it, be prepared for sticker shock. I mean we are talking unicorn pricing here. Er,... Unicorn's guarded by princesses in diamond encrusted tiaras.
