I enjoyed the article “Framing an Elegant Dormer” from the May 2000 No. 130 issue. I have a question concerning the ventilation for the dormer if the interior space is finished as pictured on the bottom-right of p. 115. Is a continuous ridge and soffit vents all that is necessary to ensure adequate ventilation?

Noooooooooo!
You said the V word!
Wimmen and chillen, head for the basement. Grumpy old carpenters are gonna start yellin' at each other and drawing cartoons and such. It'll take weeks for everybody to settle down.
Why can't you ask about something non-controversial, like religion or the death penalty? ;-)
*Search the HVAC archives on venting, including small hip and dormer roofs. Some will say no (or minimal) venting necessary if it's airsealed, others will say you need a Boeing 747 turbofan. 'Nuff said -- it is at present a matter of opinion over which reasonable minds may differ.
