Hello, <!—-><!—-> <!—->

I have a RN45? Bostitch Coil Roofing Nailer that I would like to use for attaching vinyl siding. It looks like Bostitch has an attachment for this gun for this very purpose. Has anyone tried one, does it really provide accurate nail placement and depth?<!—-><!—->

I have a couple of them, you will really feel sick when you see how simple they really are for $30 each. They do a decent job of gauging the depth of the nails once you get the air pressure right. Every few sheets will get a nail that needs loosened if you have a pretty uniform substrate.
If you want to try making them out of a small cube of aluminum I'll take a few pics and you can use your current nosepiece as a model for sizing.
Erk the RN46-1 has a five position depth adjustment...somewhere between 1 and 3 works best depending on the backing. You shouldn't need a separate attachment.

I've been wondering how you faired the storm?
hope all is well
CAG, I and mine did fine, but my dad's vacation house (that we just finished building) was partially destroyed by a tree. See my post in the Tavern :Katrina: Ground Zero Update for more.Jason Pharez Construction

Hey I use the vinyl attachment about 7 years ago (using an older model gun)and I've install vinyl on new and old home for 15 years. So I install the attachment (I'm a tool freak, what can I say) and use the gun for few of job "I did not like it" one thing I disliked was the pressure varied so the nail was to far in or out. The cheaper model of siding has a thin nailing flange (not like Certianteed Monogram) so the attachment did not fit in the nail slots, I was pulling out the vinyl so the gun would fit. The list of complaints goes on and on. So I would not recommend it, use the $30 to fill your truck, Damn the gas prices............
FYI: Wolverine/CertainTeed Millennium has the PermaFlex Hem it does'nt need the vinyl attachment so roofing or staple gun works great!
Changing air pressure is NOT going to give consistant results when driving any kind of nail into wood! The only way is to limit the travel of the parts in the tool being used.
