I have a small area in my bedroom closet, where
the airconditioner leaked water and damaged the
ceiling and side wall. The area is about 3X5.
I am pretty handy, so I could cut it out and
redo the drywall. But since it has dryed it
don’t look too bad. It does have a smell of mildew (I guess), Can I just dry it very good
clean with clorox, and repaint it.???
Thanks in advance

Ray 'you might as well try it , lot's easier than ripping it out .I dont know about the mold or mildew inside the wall , I think it requires moisture to survive ,[ I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong ].So if you have the leak fixed and its dried out you may be ok . If not you can always tear it out later ' Good luck , Chuck
*I agree with Chuck, it's worth a try. Wash it with a solution of TSP (trisodium phosphate) and bleach using a damp sponge. Aim a fan into the closet to help it dry. Prime with BIN or Kilz to seal the water stains. It may take more than one coat if the stains are severe.
