I have a bunch of projects for my house (really, I’m working on my own house) and have spent the past couple of months soliciting estimates from vendors and other contractors. It’s been hell trying to get a return call, follow through on their given word, or, sometimes, even their cooperation.
I know everyone is busy. I also make known to the vendors I’ll be providing the labor. (Some vendors want to make their cut on installation) I figure these two things reduce the incentive to follow through. Yet, whether as a contractor or as a homeowner, I get extremely miffed when a guy says he’ll call in a couple or have the bid back soon…and then doesn’t follow through. Sure, comes with the territory, blah, blah, blah.
Just want to point out something: when the boom goes bust,–when everyone is scrambling for customers–who do you think I WONT be calling?
