I have a formerly trusty smart level manufactured by wedge technologies before they were acquired by M-D. It has stopped reading in the vertical position. I have tried to super calibrate it but it won’t recalibrate in the vertical position. Is there anything else i can do other than buy a new smart tool levl and throw this one in the trash? M-D will not support this tool because it is “obsolete”

Wow -- I have one of those from about 25 years ago that I just loved, but I lost the manual and can't figure out how to calibrate it. Any chance you could give me the procedure?

I certainly can give you the instructions for recalibration. Actually if you go to the M-D tools website, I believe that the manuals for all their instruments are listed in acrobat format even the discontinued ones. That is where I found the info last night. However it didn.t help me since it won't calibrate in the vertical position. Let me know if you can't find it and I will help you out.
Found it -- Thanks! For years, I thought this level was useless 'cause I couldn't calibrate it and I thought Wedge was long gone. So it's just been sitting on a beam in my shop gathering dust. I'll dig it out tonight and see if she runs.

Good luck. You will know right away if it calibrates properly. There are two types of calibration - the short method just requires two steps - turning the level 180 degrees while it is in the horizontal position. The more detailed or super calibration requires 8 steps but I think you should do it if it has been such a long time not used. Don't forget to change the battery. If any one can help me get into the guts of this thing and see why it doesn't wotk in the vertical mode, please post a reply.
I'm sure it'll need a new battery -- I haven't even tried to use it in about 15 years. Heck, I just hope that, if I stupidly left the battery in, it hasn't leaked and trashed the unit.

wedge smart level malfunction
Oh my, this is a very old discussion thread, but I'm about at the end of my thread too -- same problem: my ancient smartlevel won't calibrate or super calibrate. One possible problem is that the booklet I'm using for the Superset technique shows what must be a second generation of the tool, because the marking says "PRO Smart Level" whereas my tool says simply "Smart Level" . I'm just grasping at straws, hoping I don't have to lose this old friend. Any advice would be much apprciated!

I have the same level module.
I get into superset with no problem, but then holding reset does not change the [0], and I can't continue.
Anyone else have this problem
