I want to free up some space in my trailer. So I am thinking f getting rid of my 6 foot ladder for a 13 foot multi ladder..the kind sperates and turns into scaffolding.
I already have a 4 footer in there and the 6 footer takes up valuable space that more junk could occupy. The multi ladder could be strapped upright and provide space for an extra bucket.
Question: are they any good?

Get a Little Giant instead.
my painter uses one for the same reason.
he works out of an suv ... keeps the Multi strapped to the roof racks all the time.
added the extension ladders only when he needs them.

I guess some guys like them. The one I bought didn't work well and broke shortly after. don't know what brand.
But the concept of them folding and depending upon the connector for strength bothered me. And I found the design less than what I was looking for.
So's I bought a Werner 8' combination ladder.

It stretches out to a 16' length or as a 8' step ladder - that can be adjusted to work on stairways or uneven levels.
I also see that the beast is unavailable and unknown if or when it will be available again...
Nice ladder.
They are kind of heavy, but I love mine. But I find the 13 too short.
I do a lot of painting and wall paper removal. Often have higher than 8 ft ceilings and need to get over kitchen cabinets and the like.
But if you are replacing a 6 ft ladder then the 13 should work and be lighter.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
I'm a framing contractor and the werner ladder is all I carry in my truck we have four of the mt-17's in the truck. I also have two of the 17' little giants and dont think they are worth the money they are both in the barn broken. I would go with the werner.
Help me know what to watch out for on my Little Giants. What breaks?

I had the pins break on one and the aluminum split right up the leg on the other.
Dang, what are you doing to them....and doesn't LG have a solid warranty?
I can imagine ways to break the pins.

I don't carry extension ladders so when we do stip and refoofs we often have them extended all the way with ladder jacks and that seems to be when they broke.
LOL, all you had to say was, I are a roofer. We roofers can break anything!;)

Any luck with gorilla ladders? I was thinking of buying one of them since the werners are 10x heavier it seems.
I have never bought a gorilla but I would assume the werner is heavier because it has thicker aluminum, but not sure.
The gorilla is a lighter knockoff of the one you have already broken.Thanks. Seems like they would replace the split one and could sell you more pins

Haven't tried getting the split one replaced, but they did send me new pins which were fairly easy to replace.
I have a Fiberglas 17" gorilla ladder.
I use it for 95% of my ladder work.
Have been able to use it many places nothing else would work.
Only draw back is the weight.
It's the best ladder I have ever owned.
Only paid $99 at HD 3 years ago.

Yes, I have the Gorilla ladders, the smaller one (up to 6' step), and the larger one. I have used the Little giant and while they are great ladders, I see absolutely no difference in the Gorilla. They're about half the price of Little Giants. I absolutely love mine & swear by them. The little one has had constant use for over 3 years now and has held up just fine.
I bought my LG about 13 yrs ago now and haven't had any problems w/ it other than breaking off the orange plastic pulls on the center pins. They still work though.
Back then LG was the only multiuse ladder that I knew of.
I have the 17' Werner, other than being heavy I like it. It is able to be used in many functions and the more you use it the less hassle it is to adjust. For occasional use you can end up with some mashed fingers if you do not pay atention. That is the nature of all the clones and the original Little Giant.
I have the fiberglass LG version of the pickers step ladder. It too is pretty heavy but that is the price of having substantial meat on the bones.
I bought some of the LG accessories, leveler and standoff. They do not fit the Werner! The step does work fine though.
I do not feel the LG standard one is worth the difference in price over the Werner.
I have the Gorilla multi-position ladder. It's virtually identical to the Little Giant ladder, but the Little Giant does work a little smoother, but IMO, not enough to justify twice the price.
Mine is the 21' ladder, but it actually only reaches to about 18' as an extension ladder. As a step ladder, it reaches to about 9'. Closed up, it's about 5'.
It works well and it's very strong and stable in either configuration. Be very careful where you have your fingers as you extend/retract it. If the ladder gets away from you and your fingers are in the wrong place, it could create a very painful situation. I have not had this problem... yet, but I'm very careful with it.
One of these days, I'm going to get the accessory platform since I do a lot of painting. Either that, or I'm going to make a small platform to sit on top when it's set up as a step ladder.
