What are the pros and cons Eider board/cement fiber board? This is for a residence in northern california (sonoma county). The client has been looking at articles of homes that have done a board and batten look with the cement fiber board. The battens are wood, the board is cement fiber. Presumably the board is a 4′ wide piece and the battens help hide joints. Does the batten have any function in relation to the cement fiber panels beyond this? Is it cleaner to have a screw head go into a wood batten than into a cement fiber panel? I’ve heard people say that they can see a lot of irregular shadows a cement fiber panel when its glanced by light. Is the batten there to hide this? The adjacent structure is shingle siding. How does it stack up to shingle siding in terms of cost and performance. Fire resistence is also a concern here in the summer. Thanks for any help.
