Novice here. I have a 1200 sqft bungalow on a 4″ slab in Richmond BC with electric baseboard. I am a foot below sealevel and average temperature low of 0C, 32F and high of 25C, 78F.
I am adding a full 2nd storey and 400 sqft 3rd storey. How should I heat the place?
(I will be taking everything down to the studs.)

I've heard that in Canada, the rates for electric are subsidized so that it is very competitive.
Also, as more fuels get used up and prices rise, the electric companies are always buying from what is the cheapest source. nuclear and coal are on the rise in percent of useage now with some wind power and waste co-generation being thrown in.

How you construct the shell and what you do with the existing framing allowing more insulation and preventing air leaks will open your options to a lot of choices. Go to the super insulated house discussion and read the numerous good ideas. That's ware I would Start. Jay
Thanks Jay. I will.
Think about an air source heat pump. We're in Pemberton (a slightly colder climate) and like ours. You get AC as a bonus.
