Allen,
I just finished a playhouse for my larvae. I used 23×23 windows from Home Despot as they were the smallest I could find. I think any smaller would be a custom made proposition. But, check out the Lowes home page, It’s where I got my plans, they might be helpful. How big is the playhouse you built?

Larry, It's only 4x8, I built it to fit sheet sizes. I think 23x23 will fit just fine. I haven't tried h.d. yet, thanks for the come back. BTW that was a pretty rewarding experience, kids loved it! Take care, Al
*Allen,Go to a window supplier and ask if they would have some of those windows with a handle on 'em that the salesmen use for demos. They are like mini windows which is what you want. Maybe they've got some collecting dust. Best of luck.
*Allen - I did one for my kids a couple of years back, and ran into the same problem. But I lucked out, and stumbled onto a lumberyard with a really narrow (14") window that was meant for a bathroom in a mobile home. So ask around - you never know what a lumberyard has laying around. (They also found an American flag with 48 stars in it a few years back, still new in the box)I also stumbled onto a few 14" square "bubble" skylights, and stuck a couple in the roof. Really added a lot of light. If you need them, I can check to see if the yard still has any around. I think they only wanted $5 for them. Best of luck with it.

Al,
Yes it is a rewarding experience. The kids love it, and love showing it off. I loved the time spent building with the kids. Way too cool for words. Good luck with your windows.

Call around to your local glass companies and ask if they have any old demo windows for discontinued lines kicking around the back room, often the manufacturers sell them small versions for the showroom. It might even be possible to buy some from the manufacturer, so also ask for the names of their local manufacturers' sales reps.

*Look up yor local RV supply, motorhome windows are a lot smaller than residential type windows. Just a thought?

Two other thoughts:
1) Check local boating supplier or marina to find numbers for boatbuilders - anytime someone replaces windows, the old ones are up for grabs.
2) Find where local builders sell window over-runs. Here in Toronto I check Discount Windows- if you're not restricted to a specific size, you can get great deals.

Make your own. Casement style, hinged on one side with a latch hook to hold it closed. Not tough at all. And, consider using plexiglass.
I used sashes from a few old salvaged double hung windows on my kids' playhouse. Trimmed the edges down and hung them on hinges as above, casement style. Work well enough. Unlatch, open...pull close, latch.
They're almost even, well...kid-proof.
*Alan, I was in our local Hood's a couple of days ago and they had a couple of hundred small vinyl single hung windows, something on the order of 16"x24". Hood's sells seconds, overstock, and bankruptcy sourced building materials. I think these are seconds. They do not have nailing fins. I don't have a price but if you are interested e-mail me and I will go back. It's not far, no big deal. Steve
*Went by Hoods today. The windows are $20 plus tax. 20% off through Saturday.

Saturday was a great day, me and the kids got a load of lumber and built a playhouse in the back yard. The problem is I can't find any small windows (about 20x20). Does anybody know where to find these?
