I need to find a 30 inch belt drive whole house fan that can be installed in a house that has strusses on 24 inch centers. The fan must be installed without having to cut a struss. Modifying the louver to mount below the struss is not an option. LOMANCO, Inc. once made these but no longer. If you can help me find a source it is appreciated.

Pls explain why you need a 30" fan instead of a 24" model (CMF?) If so, simply box-out your 30" rough opening using 2x6's if on 2x4 trusses (for example) and leave the extra 2" proud above the trusses. You could use 2x6's crosswise between the middle trusses, 2x4's crosswise on either side pair, and 2x6's on the left and right parallel to the trusses. Shim the 2" in the 4 corners, if necessary.

The house is 1900 square feet therefore the reason for a 30 inch fan. I only have one location in the house available to install the fan and the 2x4 truss on 24 inch center in that location CANNOT be cut to make way for a fan and louver requiring a 30 inch opening. Actually it is the louver that is what requires the truss to be cut. LOMANCO, In.used to make a unit which would work in this application but they have quit making them.

Why do you need a particular size(30")and type (belt-driven)when noise and CFM are normally the determining factor? I use Fantech fans for this purpose. They are almost silent, and they mount on a single brackett to the side of a truss in any number of positions. Check out http://www.fantech-us.com
*What's the point of putting a 30" fan on a 24" hole?If the fasted and largest part of the blade is at the tip, and therefore the majority of the air is moved at the tip, obstructing the tip sure makes a big difference. Not to mention the problems with turbulance.A 24" fan with a faster blade, or more blades would move as much air as a 30" fan.
*You should be able to use any fan you want - just mount it centered on, and above the truss. Then build a wood plenum down from that level to the ceiling. Use 2x material and the plenum becomes the frame to mount the shutter.Use a shutter with a stationary center vane. You can purchase one from W W Grainger. The catalog number for a 32 x 32 shutter is 3C511.

allaround, Thanks for the input. The shutter you referenced is exactly what I need.
