Any one out there know if there is such an animal as a folding pocket door system?
I am trying to design a Fireplace surround/Ent.center.
it will be ~6 ft wide but only 17in. deep on the narrow side(trapezoidal in plan) and 36-37″ on the deep side.
How can I make a pocket door that wil cover a big TV and still fold/slide out of the way?

How about a tambour door?
Some of the historic homes aroung here have shutters on the windows that fold accordian style into side pockets. If you can recess the TV a bit from the front face of the cabinet it should work.

1. Assure yourself that your TV will fit on a shelf that is less than 17" deep.
2. Go to http://www.rockler.com and find some hinges that hide in the edges of doors. (Or at least some that allow the door to fold completely onto itself, like any good bifold.)
3. Use the edge-hidden hinges to make bifold doors for your entertainment center.
4. Mount the bifolds on the pocket door flippers.
5. Design the cabinetry so that the pockets are big enough to accomodate the double-thickness doors.
