Wilsonart (I’m told the only source) has a Solid Surface Veneer that’s about 1/8 thick and applied to a wood or particle substrate. Provides solid surface performance and appearance but apparently at about $30 per lineal foot (2 foot counter width) less than 1/2″ solid surface material.
Is Wilsonart the only producer? Is the cost difference accurate? Any experiences with installation and performance?
TIA.

Are you talking about a "poor man's" corion? - yb
*It's a Solid Surface material, a Corian clone. One of many. But they are making it in a 'veneer' thickness as well as the full depth stuff.
*As far as I know, everyone that makes a SS product has a veneer. My Surrell dealer warned me away from it however, as there have been problems. My persoanl opinion is, if you are going to uses SS, use the regular product; I don't trust how stable the thinner product will stay, but then, I haven't used it.Did you guys know Pionite is made by Corion? Same plant, materials, etc. i didn'y know this until just recently.
*There is an article on SSV at the Journal of Light Construction.
*My Wilsonart dealer indicated that the lamination needs to be done under shop conditions with special adhesives and equipment. It's not a job site deal. I wonder if that accounts for the problems you mentioned? I'll have to check on warranties. On it's surface (no pun intended) this appears to be a step up from Formica type laminates at a significant saving as compared to full depth SS.
