We will be repairing and painting the window of a 1920s house. How much prep work is necessary before we paint the windows. We started sanding, and chemically stripping the windows to bare wood. However, it is very tedious and the labor costs are piling up. I am wondring if it sufficient to just sand the windows as best as we can with electric sander and use good quality paint. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If the window is that old I wouldn't use an electric sander. It's likely that there is leaded paint somewhere on it, and you don't want a cloud of that dust around. If the underlying paint is not peeling, chipping, or comprimised in another way, you don't have to remove any of the old stuff. You could just knock off any high spots with a scraper, hand sand any needed spots, primer, and paint. It depends on the condition of the paint, and your expectations with the final results.
