Hi!
I am visiting from the Sewing Forum and I thought that someone might be able to give me a simple fix for this.
I live in an apartment and right now the only table that I’m able to use for sewing is a long folding metal (aluminum?) table – the type that the supports fold in at both ends.
It is wobbly though from front to back and I thought that possibly rubber tubing or tape wrapped around the bottom of the supports might stabilize it.
I’d appreciate any thoughts!
Thanks!

a picture is worth a thousand words -
if you want a quit/cheap/easy fix, get some duct tape and tape some diagonals across the shaky plane -
I'll be glad to post a picture but what do you want me to photograph? The underside of the table? There's no way I'd be able to do anything to the rivets but I've got duct tape! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The duct tape reduced the wobble by a lot - thanks! I'm unable to attach it to a wall because it is in front of a bookcase and I need to move it.

your photobucket link takes me to the home page and I don't see a way to your specific photos - "there's enough for everyone"
Let's see if this works

That was taken pre-duct tape! I used all that I had - I need to get another roll if it still wobbles. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

is the table riveted???

Sounds like a well used table where the joints have just loosened up. A picture of the undeerside would be a great help.

As others said, is it moving sort of as a unit because the legs aren't wide enough at the bottom, or is it "racking" where the legs are moving out of perpendicular with the top. If the latter, as another poster suggested, some sort of diangonal braces are needed between the top rail and the legs. He said duct tape, and that would work, although perhaps lacking in elegance! It would be the easiest and fastest solution. Other than that, maybe using sheet metal screws to attach diagonal steel pipe strapping (use to make slings around pipes to hold them up) may work. Pre-drill the holes slightly smaller than the screws. The only problem with screws is that putting holes in the rail and legs may weaken them. Really, duct tape isn't a bad idea!
if you have basic tools you could drill out the rivets and replace them with bolts or machine screws and nylok nuts...
you may be able to rehammer the rivets...

If you're doing something like using a sewing machine on it then it will get into a resonant motion and just do the huck-a-buck. What if you just screw an L bracket to the wall and secure the table that way? Maybe shelf brackets at the height of the table and when you fold the table up and put it away you could put a shelf there? Doesn't sound like the table is so special you mind putting some screw holes in it.
