Im trying to figure out the value of some old 6×6 and 6×8 DF timbers… I have 17′ lengths of each and they’re in good shape, no checks, no heart wood… anyhow I’m thinking $4/bf but someone else says $2-3. Any thoughts?

On your 6X6 X 17' beams there are 51 bd ft and you want $4 per bd ft - that puts that beam at $204! Boy I wouldn't pay that for it unless it was something really special.
Those beams are worth whatever you can get but $204 seams high to me but what the hell, if you can get it, great!

I agree that $200 is alot, I'm just thinking its hard to get timbers like that any more. Thanks for your input.

And it might be, so I wouldnt be so bold as to say that they are not worth that much. Maybe it just seams like a lot of money for a board thats 17 feet long!
I'm sure to the right person that they may be worth that much, maybe more. I guess if you resaw them and had 1 X 6"s 17' long then $4 a board ft isnt out of line.
Maybe its just the 200 plus for a 17' board! I have some 12' long 5/4 X 16" tiger maple that I paid $300 a board for so ...........

The sawyers around here sell locally cut doug fir for $2/BF in large sizes. That's when I go pick the log and they cut it to my size.
What kind of patina do they have?
It depends who you are selling them to, a reclaimed lumber dealer might give you $1 bd ft but then turn around and sell for $5.
I think $2-3 is realistic if they are free of heart center and coastal and would grade out at #1.

they just look aged, ya know that kinda grey. I think your right about a salvaged building material dealer. Thanks.
