Hey Folks, Does anyone have a source for wrought headed nails? I used them several years ago to do several syp t&g floors and now my suppliers can’t seem to locate them. It’s a square cut nail, ’bout 2 1/2″ with a beaten flat head. Got a little flooring job to do, and the owner wants the same look. I predrill and then sand and finish with danish floor oil. Actually, t&g roofers work best – anyway, anyone got a source?
Thanks

Tremont Nail Co. makes them in several sizes and styles (on period machines). I have bought them through Van Dykes Restorers (hardware, etc., suppliers). Lee Valley Tools has them in their last catalogue too; maybe Tremont sells direct as well, I don't know.
*Try http://www.mazenails.com/ (includes Tremont nails).
*Not bad for a lawyer... guess Adrian taught you well!

Thanks Guys - Tremont is the one - actually they have several different types / styles from which to choose.

Hey! Would anyone be interested to know that the word "wrought" means "worked"? I think it has the same root as "wright", which means "worker", as in "woodwright" or "shipwright". I think these are left overs from "Old English". - jb
*What would you guess is the origin of "carpenter"? (Answer below, no cheating.)......Well, you'd never guess (I couldn't) and it's a weird one:Main Entry: 1car·pen·terPronunciation: 'kär-p&n-t&r, 'kärp-&m-t&rFunction: nounEtymology: Middle English, from Old North French carpentier, from Latin carpentarius carriage maker, from carpentum carriage, ofCeltic origin; akin to Old Irish carpat chariot, carr vehicle -- more at CARDate: 14th century: a worker who builds or repairs wooden structures or their structural parts
