Builder Websites in the Dark Ages
Building and construction companies are doing a lousy job of making their websites friendly for mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, a study by the web-marketing company Hibu says.
Just 20% of the sites were set up to allow customers to research or make purchases on mobile devices, according to the study. That’s fewer than electricians, plumbers, taxi companies, hairdressers, and every other industry included in the survey. Hotels and B&Bs, which headed the list, had a 63% mobile-friendly rating.
“Despite some businesses in the United States already capitalizing on mobile marketing, the research also highlights that more than half (59%) of the small and medium-sized businesses’ (SMBs) websites are not set up to enable customers to research or make purchases on mobile devices,” the report said. “With 56% of adults using a smartphone, SMBs without a mobile-friendly website are missing the opportunity to reach more customers and drive sales.”
Despite widespread use of the Apple iPad, only 13% of small businesses make their websites easy to access on the devices, Hibu said.
The company said it audited 1000 websites for SMBs in the 10 largest cities in the United States. Companies were identified with a Google search.
