Architectural Designer, Bill Moore first met with the owners ten to twelve years before ground was ever broken. Initial design schematics were drawn up but a health issue put the project on hold for nearly 8 years. When the owners re-contacted Bill, the design criteria had dramatcially changed completely altering previous plans. The 4800 sq. ft. home is a hybrid of post and beam construction and conventional framing. Prior to excavation the site had an eight-foot differential in height. Once the ICF foundation was in place, Moore Design Builders dug a recreational pond and located the fill to level the site. One of the owners priorities was to create year round outdoor living space in the ski valley of Waitsfield, VT. We built an outdoor fireplace that backs up to the living room Rumford fireplace. The owners can curl up and keep warm next to the blazing fireplace. The design and orientation blocks the icy NW wind as it crosses the snow-covered fields; and, in hot summer day’s, two large barn doors open to catch the wind across the breezeway.
