Designers say that a kitchen should be an expression of the owner’s personality. I like the sound of that concept; gone are the days of choosing among only clear, frosted, and fluted glass for cabinet doors. Still, I didn’t expect to have 127 choices for expressing my personality. That’s the number of different styles of replacement glass that Bendheim, a New Jersey-based glass distributor, currently offers.
Bendheim still has the classic options, of course, but they are also stretching the boundaries. You can choose modern glass with eye-catching artistry, or create an old-fashioned feel with authentic mouth-blown glass. The list of styles and colors reads like a dictionary of poetic phrases: Clear Coral, Blue Cascade, Fall Carnival, Wispy Slate, and so on. When you’ve found the right style for your project, choose among standard (annealed) glass, tempered safety glass, or laminated safety glass. Prices range from about 7¢ per sq. in. to nearly 40¢ per sq. in., depending on style.
To browse the styles, to order samples of your favorite glass ($3 apiece), or to buy online, visit the company’s Web site.
