Nonprofit Seeks ‘Tradesperson of the Year’
Rebuilding Together, a nonprofit organization that fixes and updates homes for low-income people for free, is seeking nominations for a “tradesperson of the year.” The winner will snag a trip to the 2014 Super Bowl, including air travel, lodging, and $500 cash.
The organization has provided free home repairs, including modifications to improve accessibility and energy efficiency, for more than 30 years. It says the collective investment it and program sponsors have made is more than $1.3 billion. Partners include Lowe’s, HGTV, DIY Network, MyFixUpLife, plus a number of building-trade associations.
“We are looking for someone who gives back to the community, adds value to his/her industry, and is committed to helping others,” the organization says at its website. “Everyone who belongs to a skilled trades organization is eligible, from plumbers to carpenters, HVAC mechanics to electricians, inspectors to painters.”
Nominations are due by Sept. 1. After an initial screening, judges will choose six finalists, whose profiles will be posted on the contest website for public voting.
More information about the program is at the Rebuilding Together website.
