I was challenged recently with aligning, gluing, and clamping some oversize miters. To provide clamping pressure, I prepared two identical T-section clamping blocks from 3/4-in. and 1/2-in. plywood and cut a 90° notch in the leg of each block.
I clamped the blocks symmetrically on opposite sides of the miter. By locating a third clamp in the notches, I was able to apply even pressure in the leg of each block across the joint surfaces without any slippage. Biscuits in the joints ensured no misalignment in the material.
