This photo encompasses the main feature of this kitchen, its overlapping layers. Because the stairs were placed on the north side, the kitchen couldn’t touch the exterior wall. The architect created these layers, placing the window, stairs and floating cabinet with a translucent back, one in front of the other. It ended up giving more visual depth to the kitchen, and provided a view outdoors and a perfect source of natural light. Maple was chosen for its warmth and unimposing character. A darker stone matte/hammered finished slate was used for the countertops to offset the wood.
