On Saturday, we wrapped-up the 2015 Home Builders Blitz in Omaha, Neb., where Habitat for Humanity Omaha dedicated nine new or renovated homes. This year’s build was really important for us as it was the start of Home Builders Blitz being held on an annual basis. The build proved to be successful and set the tone for the now annual event. Below are some photos that capture the many faces of those involved in this year’s Home Builders Blitz.
This house is now home to a Burmese family who were once refugees. The home was built during the 2014 Home Builders Blitz and is just a block away from this year’s blitz. Notice the prayer flags, the neat garden, and the impeccably kept lawn.
In the center: Brad von Gillern, president of Lueder Construction said: “We did a build five years ago and haven’t missed one yet. So I thought it would be appropriate to take a year off and give the guys a break. I made that announcement at a company meeting and I thought I was going to have a mutiny on my hands. My employees informed me that we were going to continue doing the Home Builders Blitz. We’re very pleased with the event. This is our fifth year and we are committed.”
Our road crew: Sarah Wishon and Mike Welch from Habitat for Humanity International’s construction technology team and yours truly, tired and very happy at the conclusion of the 2015 Home Builders Blitz.
Thank you to all the builders, subcontractors, suppliers and all the Habitat affiliates who participated in this year’s Home Builders Blitz.
We built renovated or repaired nearly two hundred houses this year. Let’s shoot for 400 next year!

This was an important years for Habitat for Humanity. Steve Thomas Rooney, together with hundreds of builders, subcontractors, suppliers and all the Habitat affiliates, built renovated or repaired nearly two hundred houses, and next year are hoping to double that number. We are all on this planet temporarily, which is why I completely agree with Steve Thomas Rooney world, that the important thing is what we leave behind. Making this world a better place may be a long process, but it is things like this that eventually count and contribute to the big picture.
