At this time last year, I had tiny houses on the mind. I had just written “What’s the Difference? Small Home vs. Tiny House,” and we were about to print Aaron Fagan’s “The Big Deal About Tiny Houses” in the 2015 HOUSES issue. Since then, though, I haven’t thought too much about the topic. On a purely geeky level, I do still think tiny houses are really cool. So when a press release arrived in my inbox about the new Vista home from Escape, my interest was renewed.
Escape makes “Park Model RVs” and “Trailer RVs and Tiny Homes.” There are about three models in each category, all designed by architect Katie Davis. The floor plans are smart, and the homes are built with quality materials. Escape is a Recreational Vehical Industry Association (RVIA) member and certified builder. What interested me most about Escape is that while the homes look fit for the hippest hipster, the company’s story makes them sound more like your average trailer homes and RVs. Is the tiny-house movement really just the savvy marketing of something that’s been around for a long time but wasn’t sold well enough to get us all excited?
Perhaps my next post should be “What’s the Difference? Tiny House vs. Recreational Vehicle.” Or maybe it just doesn’t matter. Regardless of what I learn, it won’t diminish my lust for a few months of quiet solitude like this guy is having in the neat little home shown here.

One difference between RVs and Tiny Homes is that I have yet to see a tiny home with a pull out, which would create a ton of extra square footage. The RV industry is light years ahead in this regard. But it would greatly enhance a tiny home.
