IBS 2017: FastenMaster FrameFast Structural Framing System
Framing system looks to eliminate hurricane ties.
The FastenMaster FrameFast system makes a code-approved connection between the top plate and roof truss with a single 6-in. screw without hurricane ties or ladders.
FHB ambassador John Hourihan, director of operations at RiverStone Custom Builders, after on-site testing, said, “What we found was that for every one hurricane tie installed with a nail gun, the FrameFasr will make four connections. It’s game over for the old hurricane ties.”
Included with the system are the structural wood screw and the FrameFast tool. FastenMaster says the FrameFast structural screw is code compliant to replace hurricane ties with its fully threaded design providing superior uplift and lateral resistance. With installation done at deck level, there is no need for ladders or scaffolding, and FastenMaster further claims installation is done up to eight times faster than the traditional method, and no pneumatic nail guns or hoses are needed .
FastenMaster, a division of OMG, states FrameFast can be used for common trusses, girder trusses and vaulted ceilings, is code compliant in the United States and Canada, and is supported by tested engineering documents that can be found on the company website.
