Better Decks Over Brick Walls
DeckStruc provides a way to meet stringent building codes for framing over masonry veneer while making the construction process much simpler.
Thick brick and stone veneer claddings can really complicate a deck build, particularly where you have to attach a deck ledger to a home’s floor framing. DeckStruc is a new type of bracket that makes the installation process easier while also creating a much sturdier connection than some common solutions for this construction detail.
The bracket consists of two parts: one fastens securely between your home’s floor joists, and the other bolts to that inner bracket from outside. All the parts work together to give each bracket a 2000-lb. vertical-load limit. It can also be paired with the company’s lateral steel angles to meet lateral-load requirements.
What really makes this a must-have piece of hardware is the flexibility and control it gives you over the installation process and timeline. Because the bracket can be installed as soon as there’s sheathing on the house, it doesn’t hold up any of the interior work that might take place in the joist bays, such as insulating, plumbing, or HVAC rough in. And because the inner bracket sits right on the sill, it’s simple for even one person to install a whole row of them at the correct height without any fussing around.
DeckStruc brackets come in a standard size for $150 each, and you will need one about every 4 ft. along a ledger—though check with the company’s technical documents to make sure your spacing is right for the loads on your deck project. DeckStruc can also build the hardware in custom sizes to meet your needs.
