Gonna need to install a bunch of 3/8 & 1/2″ anchor bolts/sleeves/threaded rods in concrete and am thinking about an electric impact wrench/drill, the half inch variety.
Anyone have any recommendations? Lowes only carries the DeWalt model, and HD only has the Ridgid model. I’ve seen a similar model by Milwaukee, which I used to drive some Simpson bolts last week-end at JLC, and it seemed ok.
What do you use?
Thanks, and have a sparkling day/night/forever.
What’s with the slash thing these days, anyway? Gonna have to limit the use of / / / /.

You could always try using these it looks odd but it keeps things mixed up.
Do you mean a hammer drill or a rotohammer, for drilling the holes into concrete? If that's what you want, I would stick with bosch. Although now that I think about it, the rigid hammer drill is made by the same company that makes metabo, and it's supposed to be quite good.
If you mean an impact wrench, I'm no help to you.

You're right, impact wrench. I called it something other, a drill? Anyway, am looking for a beefy 1/2" corded impact wrench. "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." Invictus, by Henley.
Ok, like I said, I don't know much, but my first choice would be milwaukee. Actually, my first choice would be a pneumatic impact wrench, and make it an IR. You don't have a compressor, or one big enough?
zak
Not portable. Electric is the only viable option, I think. I'll have to try my pneumatic wrench with my pancake compressor and see how it does, but I believe the wrench would take more than the a/c can deliver.
Thanks again. The Milwaukee would probably be a good choice.

Bosch SDS Bull dog...
Hilti is better... lots more bucks....
other than Bosch and Hilti... there isn't anything.....

The Lowes store brand.
That is much cheaper than any other brand. They usually price out at about $169 or so. Have you used it? If so, for how long? I don't want to spend money on something that is gonna fail after the warranty expires.

No, I do not have it. I have battery and one air models. I have a 14.4v DW, 12v Bosch and DW and a 12v B&D. I was in Lowes the other night and a guy was looking at the one I linked.
If you are not planning on using it forever that Harbor Freight looks like it might be cost effective, especially if there is one of their store nearby.

I would give Harbor Freight a try. I had one of there 1/2" electric impacts and it worked great on lug nuts as well as lag bolts etc. They usually get about $60.00 for theres. I say I had, it worked great the last time I saw it. I hope the person who has it know really needed it just before it took a dump.
You could run them in with a drill first, then use the impact, or just use a ratchet wrench. I cut the female end off a 3/8 square drive extension, fits the milwaukee 1/2 holeshooter perfectly. By the way, dont even try one of the wimpy hex to 3/8 square adapters in your drill. Didn't make it through one bolt before it twisted in two.
I have the Milwaukee Lok-Tor 18V hammer drill and it works great. I have drilled for Tapcons, inserts, low voltage wiring going through poured concrete and block, brick, wood, steel, you name it. I like the clutch, the two speeds and the hammer feature. If you want to save some money, maybe ebay has one. If you don't need/want/like to drill this kind of thing often, either the Harbor Freight will work or you could rent one.
Sorry about the ///
Just buy the milwaukee. Its got great power and will last forever. It will also drive 1/2 and 5/8 lags with out having to predirll. Never buy cheap tools.
