1 Yr. Anniversary – Ikea laminate (Pergo) type flooring
In case anybody is interested in an inexpensive flooring solution I’d like to pass on my thoughts on laminate floor I installed one year ago. I purchased it from Ikea for about $1.20 a square foot. Shortly after I installed the floor, it dropped in price and I received an unexpected rebate so the floor came in at under $1.00 Cdn a sq. foot.
It was the old tongue and groove system, which required gluing. I had to rent a Pergo flooring installation kit with strap clamps to install the flooring. I would NOT recommend any floor that requires gluing. A major pain in the a**.
I have to say the floor has held up exceptionally well over the year in a high traffic kitchen. I used a wax pen to fill any small gaps in the joints and they have held up well. It doesn’t show any scratches and shows no sign of damage.
Ikea has discontinued the system I used and replaced it with a snap together system (no glue) with improved styles. It sells for a remarkable $1.29 square foot Cdn!
I often see similar products at Home Depot for $3.50 or more. If you need a inexpensive floor I highly recommend the improved Ikea product.
