got a mud porch toilet on the back mud porch that was/is used for gardeners to clean up without having to come in the kitchen to use the sink and etc… im refinishing the floor and need to take the toilet off the drain pipe that goes straight down into the city sewer line. no elbow, no nothing. you drop something down, its gone! its the old tank over pot design with a lid that activates the flush. you lift up, it flushes, you put it down, it fills the tank. know anyone who sells or works on these kind of old values? next, how do i take that securing ring off at the base of the toilet? it looks like a big ring or collar. torch it? twist counter clock or clockwise? is there a special tool or just use a big plumbers wrench? any advice?

Bob, I can't help with the toilet or valve, but with the age of your house, you may be dealing with lead at the floor flange. The soft lead is just peened into place, and can be gradually bent up to free the flange.
Just experiment a little and see if this is soft material. You may want to stay authentic to the era, but I'd probably go with a more modern toilet. Not necessarily new, but if you could salvage one from a 1950's home, you'd have the right look, but with a better flush than the new 1.6 gallon wonders!
