Ceiling medalion?
Yeah, a medalion defineately. I have done this a few times. Any decent home improvement store will have them in various sizes and shapes. DanT
We had the same problem in a church office area they changed over to daycare. The box is bigger than the trim area of the lens holder. They didn't want to go to the expense of removal and replacement. You don't want to increase the wattage past the stated limit.
We sprayed the inner housing with a gloss white and cleaned the lens. Amazing increase in brightness. If you don't want a medallion.

I ran into this probblem before. I removed the light fixture and installed a new fan rated box. I then used a 3/4" piece of oak (or what ever) plywood large enough to cover the hole and cut in a octagon shape and banned the edges. I thought it looked pretty good. Beats the heck out of trying to patch texture ceiling.
