The curved stairs on deck worked ! The 3/4 x 1.5 clear cedar kiln dryed with Pl Pm. glue and 2″ glav. nails and screws. I’m still not 100% sure that it will still look good in the fall . But how long can you tell a arch. his method is not the best. I,ve already documented my disapprove and I,m wondering if I,ve done enough, any opinions out there ?

I'm glad to hear you made it work. It can sure be difficult sometimes figuring out how your skill and experience should be applied and what will serve the customer's and your own interests best in the long run. Sometimes you've just got to hold your nose and do it the way the high priced help wants. After all, there's just about nothing that bugs people more than a self-righteous attitude (unless it's "I told you so"). You were smart to record your disapproval and I hope you don't have to remind anyone of that.

See Ron's post above for the professional reaction. As for me...I can't imagine how an architect could be wrong. My friend NI, came up with details for a deck rail, and had the wonderful idea of using 2 2x4's and a piece of plywood inbetween for posts(No adhesive). He also specified that the kd, select cedar decking be put down tight. I didn't do the job. It worked wonderfully well, you could pretty much run a hose on the deck, and create a little wading pool for the kids. The poor saps, (landscapers), that built the decks didn't know what crown was, but they managed to get all the inside joists crown down and the outers crown up..LOL.' I finished the 8" crown I was working on inside, collected my money and fled the scene!
Well, it wasn't 6 months later that the owner of the house refused to make the final payment, and used most of the money to repair the work that was built. Too bad the contractor burned for 80,000. Another good reason to choose who you want to work for. The deck and rail was replaced within 3 years.
But I could be entirely wrong!
