I am preparing to float a bathroom mudfloor which is 12′ x 9′ and I have a couple of questions. The exising sub floor is sound and pretty level.
(#1) how do I calculate the amount of sand and p. cement necessary to cover aprox. 110 sq. ft. at aprox. 3/4″-1″
(#2) what type of sand from the home centers can I use for the mix? (i.e. fine play sand, all purpose, etc.) I ask about sand from the home centers is because there is nowhere around to otherwise get sand, and home center is right next door. I was told that the play sand was acceptable, but want to get an experts opinion.

Here' s some info on the process.

Depending on the size of he bag available-you'll probably need one bag of Portland ( if 90 lb bag).
The total mix will be about 9 cu.ft (if 1728 is the number of cu. inches in a cu ft./then dividing that into the total inches in a 9x12 area @ 1" thick). If the play sand tells you the volume on the bag-you're in luck. If not, lay it on the floor and guess the amount in that bag.
The mix ratio is 5 parts sand / 1 part portland.
John Bridge forum says ok to play sand., but take a look at the explanation.
thanks for info Calvin
