Hi All
I am looking to buy a pneumatic finish nailer compressor kit. Any suggestions for quality with value combined, that is lot of tool for the money?
Also doing my bathroom and need advice for the corner bead , outside corner, where durock meets sheetrock, also at butt joint. Joint compound, thinset?
Thanks Again
Kevin

How much do you plan on using the nailer? If your an occasional user then you would do OK with the Porter Cable set up, I think you get two guns and the compressor for somewhere in the neighborhood of $300. The Senco is in the same ballpark and I assume quality is probably equal.
I'm not a big fan of PC nailers anymore but if your not using daily then its fine, IMO.

Check over in the Tools folder in a thread named What Tool Did You Buy Today?
PC sucks in my book and a lot of others.
Bostitch is the same price but better.
I hear nothing but bad about Senco lately.
Check the thread and you will see.
Or post to the tool thread with your tool question.
Break out your other Q's to the general or technique folders.

Durock butt joint ... isn't it the same thickness as your sheetrock? Anyway, the edge of the tile should conceal any difference.
The outside corner shouldn't be in a wet area, so I would use setting type joint copmpound.

I agree with the previous poster......how much you`ll use the nailer plays a big part.
For a casual user I`d think the PC kit is probably adequate. Full time trimwork is another story. For that, I wouldn`t recomend a "kit". Spend the extra money and purchase the individual components as needed/desired.
I own the Senco SFN40......nothing but praise. I use an Emglo midsize compressor. (Don`t know the specs offhand) Very happy with that as well.
To the drywall/durock questions...(BTW that makes 3)......If the outsside corner will be covered with tile, don`t bother with corner bead.....if its to be exposed install bead as usual. Butt joint depends on finish as well. Will it be covered by tile? If yes, thinset....if not, DW compound.
Lemme get this straight....
YOU BANNED REZ?!?!

(BTW that makes 3) How do you figure? One question about nailers, one about Durock. Thanks for your answer though.
Kevin
I was just bustin` em.......one question on nailers and (technically) two on drywall/durock.

I'm with Eric on this. For about the same money as the PC set up you can have Bostitch. I think Bostitch nailers give very good bang for the buck. IMO, PC's nailers have really slipped in quality. There's a good deal of die-hard Senco users out there, but I'm betting they swear by Senco because they bought their nailers a long time ago and are still getting good service out of them. That has not been my experience with the newer Senco nailers.
As far as your corner bead issue..... I'd be guessing so I'll let someone better informed than I answer that one.
Go with the Hitachi nail guns.
For a DIY'er remodeling his bathroom? The guns I use everyday all day long are all Hitachi, but for occasional use I'd say the money is better spent on Bostitch or another mid price range gun, no?
I don't know. It depends on how you buy them. I never pay retail. I think you can get them all about the same price if you look for sales or buy them used. If they were for occasional use, I wouldn't buy new. Maybe a flea market or garage sale.
Good points. I was just wondering what your line of thinking was.
"buy them used", never thought of that. I recently bought a paintshaver used from classifieds in Old House Journal online. Very happy with it. Any sources for nailers used?
Kevin
A few sources are: Garage sales, flea markets, co-workers, or new if they are on clearance at the stores. If you have the patience you will certainly find a good deal. Ebay if the shipping doesn't kill the deal.
that's not 2 questions... you've exceeded your limit
Lot of counters on this board. Funny story on construction technique. A neighbor of my mother in laws is having siding, windows, and roof done. Guys ripped old roof on front of house, redid it, started on back of house and threw old stuff on new roof. Later one guy was trying to get a new window in opening, wouldn't fit. He asked the homeowner for some butter. I think I would have got the butter and video cam, winner on Americas Home Videos for sure. I hope you noticed, no new questions with this post.
