2″D hole in 2X10, 4″ from top, 4’from en
To expand on the title:
Need to get through a 2X10 joist which is part of a floor system composed of 2×10 FIR joists 16″ on center covered with 3/4″ Advantech. Joists span 10′. It’s for a DWV pipe, 2″ PVC. Center of hole needs to be 4″ from the top of the joist and 48″ from one end, where the joist is supported by the foundation wall.
OK structurally?
I did read a thread here about what is structurally allowable, but saw enough conflicts and options that I thought I would get as specific as I can to get a quick direct answer.
Thanks in advance for your response and advice.

How many joists are you going through, all of them? Why does it call for the hole to be off center? I always thought holes should be drilled through the middle of the joist. Especially a hole that size.

Previous post was supposed to say that the NC code is IBC based.
You are fine with it in the middle of the elevation like that. Normally would be precluded from puttiong it that close to center of span , but 2x10 is overkill for a 10' span anyway so you still have plenty of meat on the bone.

That's what I thought, so I went ahead and bored through just the one joist to get the pipe in.
Thanks, ALL fot your input.
2" ok... 3" and you would have to double up the joist
2" pipe isn't gonna fit in a 2" hole. It's 2 9/16" holes you need, which is still OK.
